RER formula
Resting Energy Requirement uses the widely taught clinical approximation RER = 70 × (body weight in kg)^0.75. This estimates baseline calories at rest.
MER multipliers
Maintenance Energy Requirement multiplies RER by life-stage and activity factors (for example ~1.6 for many neutered adult dogs, ~1.2 for many neutered adult cats, higher for growth and work). FeedPaw exposes these as selectable activity levels in the dog and cat calculators.
Portions & raw
Portions divide daily kcal by the food’s labeled kcal per unit. Raw/BARF tools estimate grams as a percent of body weight and split classic muscle / bone / organ ratios for educational planning.
